Each day along the way of our journey through the US was a new experience with unique sights and sounds. This video gives a small glimpse into just a portion of one of the 28 days on the road. We began the day in Buffalo, Wyoming, and made our way east through many small towns, the Black Hills, damage from the forest fires throughout the area of the country, wide open landscapes, and finally to the Badlands National Park in South Dakota.
The beautiful rolling hills that stretch as far as the eye can see are deceiving ~ they appear so close but in reality are so very far in the distance. I only came to understand the enormity of the landscape as I looked closer and saw tiny black specks and realized they were herds of cattle. I wonder what causes this trick to my eye ~ is it the wide open blue sky?
Among all the miles we travelled on this day, we took time to visit the Crazy Horse Memorial. The beautiful music that I have included in this piece was recorded there during Darren Thompson’s performance. I found the rich tone and melody touched something deep within. Mr. Thompson is an award-winning Native American Indian flute player and more about him and his music can be found at http://www.darrenthompson.net.
