Hello and welcome to part 21 of our road trip through North Carolina.
From here we traveled the areas back roads to explore Lake Norman State Park which is the largest manmade lake in North Carolina. It was incredible to think that this lake, like so many others across the U.S., was a result of man’s hands.
Take note when watching the video and see if you can tell what kind of snake that is.
Well this is it for today. We hope you come back and see how the trip unfolds as we share more of the USA Through Our Eyes. Until then be safe.
Yes, doesn’t it send shivers through your body. When Tom looked at it afterword’s I could see him shiver too.

It’s the kind that wiggles and moves quickly…sending shivers. That’s all I need to know! Lovely lake, though!

Good point about being drawn to the sound. Good reason to always be aware. Be safe out there okay.

I never thought about more under the dock! That’s a great point. I don’t think the dogs have ever come across a snake or have ever tried to track one. I do keep an eye out for them though, especially when we go to rattlesnake territory since the dogs would definitely be drawn to a rattle sound.

We always have to be on the lookout don’t we. Lesson for us after hearing your story.

Thank you and yes, it was a non poisonous water snake that startled me and triggered the slippery fall.

Ouch that must have really hurt. Thankfully you escaped its bite. From what we are learning they can be deadly. We are being careful in our travels through wooded areas and fields. You be careful too please.

Not a dan if snakes either and dislocated my elbow because of one. They suppose to signal life changes encountered and that part was correct.

Tom didn’t know it and I could as I was filming the moment. I knew if I commented he would have climbed up one of the poles given his disdain for these creatures, lol. I was surprised as I watched it and wondered how many more may have been under that dock. It was a good lesson though because it made us realize to be careful where we walked especially with Emma. Emma loves to play with things and one never knows what she would do? Have your dogs encountered snakes?

Woof Woof Ann.

Yes. We stay away from these. Thankfully Emma didn’t want to retrieve it, lol.

I have to ask: did you see the snake when you were filming or did you catch it later? I’m only asking because you have such control to not follow it as it swam!

Thank you Emma you are a best friend, a big hug from me for you.

Brrr. that is a poison one.

They sure do swim fast. Wouldn’t want to be swimming and meet up with it.

LOL, LOL. Emma says she would protect you if she were there. Woof, Woof.

Yes Ann we definitely weren’t going to play with it. It was big and from what we heard it was a water moccasin.

Thanks Logan. GP Cox https://pacificparatrooper.wordpress.com/ believes it was a water moccasin and this is what others have said also. He noted having an experience once where one charged at him from the water. Not a thing to play with.

There aggressiveness if what we heard also. Mean critters. That had to surprise you when it came at you. What did you do?

The snake looks like a good swimmer. We used to have a place on a lake and sometimes would see black snakes swimming . They were harmless and about the same size as the one in your video. Perhaps the same type of snake?

Oh no, when there is a burglar, she gives him the handbook LOL

It was realy a long snake and maybe not harmless, it was better to film this snake 😉

LOL, LOL. We aren’t particularly fond of them either. They make us a lot nervous.

Hi Ann. Wasn’t that a long snake! Yikes we wouldn’t want to get in it’s way.

The reason I thought it was, because of how quickly it moved. I was on land once, fishing, and one of those guys in the water came charging at me!! Aggressive little creatures.

I like snakes if I have a shotgun well loaded. Otherwise no.
Nice and quiet there.

I so cal we grow up being very water conscious. We all conserve without thinking about it. I don’t worry about it because there’s nothing more I can do. Plus, honestly, Ben keeps me worried enough that I don’t have much time to worry about other things. LOL.

We have been reading about this lately. Its scary to think what is happening to our water supplies. Do you ever worry?

All our lakes are reservoirs. We don’t get enough rain and the demand for water far far exceeds the supply.

This is great you are okay with snakes. I remember when I was young and played with them all the time but for some reason as I grew I became a little nervous around them. We hadn’t seen such huge man created lakes before. It was amazing. So this happens in California too?

From what we have been told by the locals it was a water moccasin. Freaked us out for sure. Snakes aren’t high on either of our like list, lol. Do you mind snakes?

Thank you Miss Jose for your encouragement and always making time to talk with us and share. We are having so much fun discovering all these places that in the all we could do was read about them. Now we are out there to see them first hand. It will be so exciting when you get the chance to come see. Maybe our travels will give you ideas where to journey too.

We don’t like the snakes Mary but we sure do like the state. We heard they are very high in snake bites so we were always on guard for them. We were in Whiteville and at White Lake. Sooooo pretty.

We know what you mean Margaret. They give us the creeps too.

I had to watch a 2nd time to see the snake swimming.
Snakes don’t bother me. My daughter has a pet corn snake.
Beautiful lake! I think most, if not all, of our lakes in So Cal are reservoirs. All man made.

I was going to ask if it was a fresh water eel or a water moccasin?

I thought I saw a snake. There are a lot of snakes in NC and it used to hafe one of the highest snake bite incidents. It is still a beautiful state. You should visit White Lake if you get over near Whiteville.

It is amazing what man can do with what God gave him. I couldn’t watch the video 😦 as soon as you said “snake” I was out. LOL If I see one, I’ll be seeing them all day hahaha, if you know what I mean :):)

We didn’t end up staying there at Lake Norman but it was a beautiful park and the sites were so clean and big. Definitely a place we’ll come back to camp at though.

Hi Andrea. It was in the scene where Tom is standing at the end of the dock and in the foreground to the left of the dock swimming screen left was the 3 -4 foot snake. Yucky I don’t like snakes….

Nice! Did you camp in the state park? We have camped in that area of NC a few times but never could get info about the campsites there.
