Charles at Yesterday’s Drive-In

It was an evening awhile back and yet it remains as fresh as if it was yesterday.

We were on the return journey home after being on the road for a month touring across these beautiful United States.  Evening was upon us and our bellies were letting us know it was time to find and check out another unique eatery like those that we had grown fond of discovering on our travels.  We were in Carmi, IL and as we meandered its streets, we reflected on the many other small towns we had  navigated.  Each place was unique, and it was always fun experiencing the interesting differences each community embraced.  Each town seemed to have folks that always reminded us that the United States was filled with people just like us living out their dreams salted with moments of hardship.

Then there it was… “Yesterday’s Drive-In”.  It was a little run down but something we learned on the road was these were the places with the friendliest folks, the best and most unique foods and always something to cause us to leave more satisfied then before we stopped.

We placed our order and it wasn’t long before we were chatting up a storm with the locals.  We were once again touched how they instantly allowed us into their circle that small towns are so well known for.  As we enjoyed the brisk September temperatures that signified winter would soon be laying down its first frost, we observed a man in a pick-up  truck waiting as we were for his culinary delight.

Our glances connected and before long we were engaged in a wonderful  conversation about the area and his life in this little town.  Over the next hour, we got to know each other, and he shared many stories from his life, his growth in his trade, his family, and his relationship with God.  We were, and remain, so very touched as he shared the moment when he knew that Jesus Christ had forgiven him. We hope that you feel the tenderness we experienced and the power of the Lord that he felt in his heart in the short video we created of this precious time together.

We hope you enjoy the video.  Don’t forget to check out our USA Through Our Eyes Vimeo site  to see some of our other video productions.  So, until next time be safe and keep looking up.
