Hello to each of you that take moments of your precious time to check in with us and vicariously enjoy our little adventures.
Recently we were in the mood to do some hiking and discovered Hog Island. Now wait a minute before you let your mind go hog wild wondering what kind of hiking spot this was… it was awesome. The recreation area is located in Bushnell Florida within the Croom Tract of Withlacoochee (say this 3 times fast) State Forest and sits alongside the Withlacoochee River. The Withlacoochee State Forest spans across 5 counties and exceeds 165,000 acres. We didn’t hike all 165,000 acres. Withlacoochee is a Native American word meaning “crooked river”. Yes… it was very crooked.
The area abounds with beauty including a vast array of tree species and wildflowers. It is also reported to have an abundance of bald eagles, fox squirrels, gopher tortoise, white-tail deer, and turkeys none of which were anywhere near us. Locals say they were on the other side of the forest. We did see one very long snake which fortunately was going the opposite direction we were running and what may have been a Puma footprint or very large house cat.
We hope you enjoy the photographs. Don’t forget to check out our Vimeo site to see some of our recent video productions. So, until next time be safe and keep looking up.
Thanks for your like of my post, “End Times 20;” you are very kind.

Hi Beth! Wow, we are usually adding to our bucket list from the wonderful places you visit and to realize we found one you may someday visit is awesome. We’ve discovered there are 175 State Parks here in the State of Florida and hope to visit each one… God willing 🙂

It was a beautiful place Aiva and the photo you are referencing is a Cypress tree which is indigenous to this area. They are really neat to examine because the “babies” are called “knees”. I guess because they look like a knee on a bended leg? It is so kind of you to follow along with us on our journey’s.

What a lovely collection of beautiful photos. What’s the name of the trees in the seventh photo – the ones with thick trunks – they look fantastic. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Aiva
