Cataloochee Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Can you guess what animal sound this is?

Hello everyone! Welcome back and again thank you for all your friendly encouragement. Today we are bringing you a bit of a teaser post of an experience we had back in October 2018. Some folks we met while camping out at St. George Island, Florida suggested we visit a place called Cataloochee Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. We are discovering one can rarely go wrong following word of mouth advertising and this location was no exception to the rule. If you like nature and experiencing the wilds of it, then this place is for you.

Like we said the sound is just a teaser to an upcoming video we prepared that will take your breath away as to the beauty of this great country we live in.

We hope you enjoy this bit of sound and please feel free to click the “like” button and/or scroll down the page and leave a comment. We look forward to hearing from you and until the next time, we bid you all blessings!

  1. Yes they are so mellow aren’t they! As the day matured their were groups of people that would gather into their space and the Elk would just graze and bugle to one another like no one was around. Maybe in their bugle language they were saying “check that tourist out over there”, lol. They are kinda like cows in a way yet majestic with their huge antlers and massive bodies. The grand canyon is a place high on our wish list. Glad to know you’ll be checking out the “official reveal”.

  2. Aren’t the surprisingly mellow and gentle, for being such big creatures? My husband and I came up a herd of about 20 of them near the Grand Canyon a few years ago and were surprised by how unperturbed they were by our presence. We were still careful to stay a respectful distance because there were young ‘uns with the cows, though. Anyway. Welcome back, and I will look forward to the official reveal!

  3. AWESOME Heide!!! You too guessed it! Wandering Dawgs also knew and had visited them. We were in awe to walk about and photograph them. 4. YES!! Weren’t they amazing! A fellow camper we met on one of our journeys encouraged us to go and are we glad we did! The drive up the mountain and into the valley was a bit scary but well worth the drive. So great knowing you also saw these magnificent creatures!

  5. Yes Oristel it is a soothing sound isn’t it. It’s not a bird. You will be amazed when you see this massive and beautiful creature that makes this cry in the wild. We were in awe as we walked among them.

  6. I don’t want to spoil it for other readers who may wander along … but does that creature’s name start with an “e” and rhyme with … well … there are no words that rhyme with it, actually. Guess I’ll just have to bide my time and see if I’m right. 🙂 Wonderful to see you around here again!
