Hello and welcome to part 21 of our road trip through North Carolina.

From here we traveled the areas back roads to explore Lake Norman State Park which is the largest manmade lake in North Carolina.  It was incredible to think that this lake, like so many others across the U.S., was a result of man’s hands.

Take note when watching the  video and see if you can tell what kind of snake that is.

  4. I never thought about more under the dock! That’s a great point. I don’t think the dogs have ever come across a snake or have ever tried to track one. I do keep an eye out for them though, especially when we go to rattlesnake territory since the dogs would definitely be drawn to a rattle sound.

  7. Ouch that must have really hurt. Thankfully you escaped its bite. From what we are learning they can be deadly. We are being careful in our travels through wooded areas and fields. You be careful too please.

  16. Tom didn’t know it and I could as I was filming the moment. I knew if I commented he would have climbed up one of the poles given his disdain for these creatures, lol. I was surprised as I watched it and wondered how many more may have been under that dock. It was a good lesson though because it made us realize to be careful where we walked especially with Emma. Emma loves to play with things and one never knows what she would do? Have your dogs encountered snakes?

  30. The snake looks like a good swimmer. We used to have a place on a lake and sometimes would see black snakes swimming . They were harmless and about the same size as the one in your video. Perhaps the same type of snake?

  38. The reason I thought it was, because of how quickly it moved. I was on land once, fishing, and one of those guys in the water came charging at me!! Aggressive little creatures.

  41. I so cal we grow up being very water conscious. We all conserve without thinking about it. I don’t worry about it because there’s nothing more I can do. Plus, honestly, Ben keeps me worried enough that I don’t have much time to worry about other things. LOL.

  42. Again a beautiful vidio and amazing that Lake Norman manmade is. I saw the snake, but don’t no the kind of sort. Lake Norman State Park looks very nice and all of you have sure a nice time over there. Warm greetings, Ann.

  45. This is great you are okay with snakes. I remember when I was young and played with them all the time but for some reason as I grew I became a little nervous around them. We hadn’t seen such huge man created lakes before. It was amazing. So this happens in California too?

  48. Thank you Miss Jose for your encouragement and always making time to talk with us and share. We are having so much fun discovering all these places that in the all we could do was read about them. Now we are out there to see them first hand. It will be so exciting when you get the chance to come see. Maybe our travels will give you ideas where to journey too.

  49. We don’t like the snakes Mary but we sure do like the state. We heard they are very high in snake bites so we were always on guard for them. We were in Whiteville and at White Lake. Sooooo pretty.

  51. I had to watch a 2nd time to see the snake swimming.
    Snakes don’t bother me. My daughter has a pet corn snake.
    Beautiful lake! I think most, if not all, of our lakes in So Cal are reservoirs. All man made.

  55. I thought I saw a snake. There are a lot of snakes in NC and it used to hafe one of the highest snake bite incidents. It is still a beautiful state. You should visit White Lake if you get over near Whiteville.
