  4. LOL,LOL. I can only believe Donna that all of us have fallen victim to the missing sock phenomena. Wouldn’t it be great if sock manufacturers offered a money back clause if a sock gets lost while washing. We sure would buy stock in that company.

  14. Thank you Madelyn for your warm thoughts. You got us laughing describing laundry facilities and how frustrating the machines can be. We’ve put a lot of quarters in with no return on the investment. Yes, we do our best to keep smiling given all our blessings. Its funny because on the road we sometimes run out of clothes and we are scary to look at when we enter the laundromat. This only comfort is there are others dressed even scarier, lol.

  17. My laundromat is mostly full of women who seem to be washing clothes for eleventy-seven families – several rowdy youngsters in tow, so it is difficult to engage them in conversation. We smile wearily at one another.

    But this post is a nudge – I’m rapidly running out of clean clothes and the washer in the apartment basement does little but spin wet clothes around until it’s time to pretend to rinse the soap out.

    If the weather doesn’t allow me to get out next season’s threads, I’m afraid I simply MUST make a run — van or no van! (Mother Courage of the laundry cart?)

    Fun to see your smiling face, Audrey. I’m guessing Tom is down to his skivvies so can’t be photographed? 🙂

  23. Yes, the folding isn’t as easy but we make it fun anyway. We are just a couple days away from our next road trip. It has been fun getting the van ready, preparing meals, plotting the route and researching the areas we want to visit. The greatest part is not having to worry about when we have to be back… We are learning to let each day unfold as it may and the people we meet guide us with their stories of life. We are happy to know you will be with us Theresa!!!!!!

  26. he he I was surprised by how it made me almost look forward to laundry. We have an old house (1929 Tudor) and the laundry is in the (semi-finished) basement. It feels dungeon-esque. But there they are, the washer and dryer, our space-age machines, waiting to be helpful! 🙂

  27. We are smiling so brightly right now Theresa while reading your reply. Such a precious memory of the laundry machine from the past which we can relate too. Loved how you worded the machines of today looking like you could shuttle off to Mars… windows like eyes. The new ones are entertaining with their chimes and electronic gadgetry making what was once a boring routine fun.

  30. Yes, true. That reminds me, we just got a new washer and dryer (after 20 years with the old set) when the washer broke down and was no longer reparable. It was one of those front-load washers, made in Sweden because this was 1994 or so, before they started making them here. It had served us well, but was very industrial-seeming. Our new laundry pair looks like you could get into them and go to Mars. Gleaming, front-loading, with windows like eyes. They dominate our laundry room (in a nice way). And, they sing to us! A little trill happens when you turn them on. I thought it would be silly when we started using them, but now I actually look forward to going down and putting in a load. I never realized how cheerful it could make one feel to hear a fun little trill when one is putting in laundry. 🙂
